RE: Fire Damage RePort
Dear Mr. Fabrick:
The Building Division of the City of Springfield made an inspection on February
8, 1979, at 531 North 16th Street, pursuant to a fire in the structure on
February 5, 1979.
The electrical wiring and service was damaged to the point that it m'.rst be
completely replaced.
The roof and ceiling in the living room and kitchen were also damaged to the
point that they will have to be completely replaced.
It was observed that the joist for the living room and kitchen were over span,
and the ceiling height is less than required by the code, and will have to be
raised to a minimum of seven (7) feet six (6) inches.
The windows were destroyed in nany areas.
It appears that the repairs would exceed fifty (50) percent of the value of the
house. The Uniform Building Code requires that when repairs exceed fifty (50)
percent of the value of a structure, then the entire structure must be brought
up to present standards.
Should you wish to effect repairs, a building permit will be required before
work begins. Should you desire to demolish the structure, a demolition and
plumbing permit will be required and the sewer 1lne must be capped at the
property line and inspected before demolition begins.
