RE: Electrical Safety Inspection at 134 North 14th Street, Springfield, Oregon
Dear Mr. K1ine:
At the request of the Springfield Fire Department an Electrical Safety Inspection
was performed by the Springfield Building Safety Division on December 5, 1983 at
the above referenced address. At that time the following unsafe and hazardous con-
ditions were found to exist that do not meet minimum requirements of the Springfield
Electrical Specialty Safety Code:
1. Use of extension cords is not approved for permanent wiring. Install outlets
supplied from metalic raceway system adjacent to cord connected equipment.
Extension cords can cause fires.
2. Install approved cord and cap connections to suspended lighting fixtures.
Proper grounding increases safety.
3. Replace missing switch and outlet cover plates, junction box covers and install
knock out seals where conduits have been removed. Open holes can a1low electri-
cal sparks or molten metal to escape and cause fire.
N0TE: The apparent use of the building requires a metalic raceviay system as the wiring
method. Repair and maintenance of the existing raceways would eliminate nost of the
existing defects.
The Buj lding Safety Division will check on the progress in 30 days from the date of
this letter. P1ease direct all inquiries to the Springfield Building Safety Division
at 726-3753.
