ISSUE The Community Development Advisory Committee will have four vacant positions STATEMENT: as of January 1, 2022 due to the resignation of one board member, Stephanie Tabibian, and the expiration of the first term of three other board members: Kelly Mason, Bernice Pogue, and Itzel Sandoval. There are two years remaining on the position vacated by Stephanie Tabibian. All other positions will be starting a four-year term as of January 1, 2022. Three applications were received for four openings. These funds support housing programs, social services, affordable rental and home ownership housing development, neighborhood revitalization activities, parks and street construction and downtown redevelopment. My position with Willamalane allows me to serve our community by providing opportunities for engagement in activities & programs that are of interest & need to our patrons. My past experience with the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, has given me a unique perspective with community involvement and the benefits that people receive from engaging in mutual causes or interests. My background in marketing and event management along with managing a business, utilizes skills in finding creative solutions, managing a budget and finding ways to collorborate to achieve a mutual goal. 2. What specific contribution do you hope to make? To contribute to the ongoing development of the identity of Springfield and develop a conversation or vehicle for our individual neighborhoods and population groups to participate in that development. Member of Obsidians, present and former member of women focused business groups, book club, cooking group, variety of community volunteering from foster families, single parents to sporting activities. Have participated in human trafficking forums and awareness. As a parent of, now adult children, volunteering and involvement in Scouts, sports & clubs were a part of our life. 4_ What community topics concern you that relate to this board / commission / committee? Why do you want to become a member? Promoting the pride of belonging to the Springfield community. Providing vehicles for our community members to engage in our city whether they are natives, new residents or going through a life transition. Most boards / commissions / committees meet monthly. Bachelors of Art in political science, current Masters of Public Administration student learning applicable skills that I would be very interested in applying in a more direct way. Current resident of a low income Springfield neighborhood. Professional experience in assessment and current educational experience in relevant areas like conducting surveys and analyzing qualitative data. 2. What specific contribution do you hope to make? My focus in my Masters of Public Administration is in building community resilience, and a huge component of that is meeting basic needs like housing needs. I hope to bring the duel roles of my educational focus and personal background to this committee, and apply the tools I'm learning in my program to help my community meet our collective needs. Looking to get more involved in the Springfield community now that I'm settled! One community activity- ongoing work with Springfield's feral cat colonies, especially the one on Mill St and F. 4. What community topics concern you that relate to this board/ commission/ committee? Why do you want to become a member? I am keenly aware of the need for low income and moderate income resources in the Eugene/Springfield area. I have lived the majority of my life under the poverty line, live in a lower income neighborhood, and see the ongoing struggles of my neighbors. I'm from the Willamette Valley and am concerned with the trajectory of the cost of living here, and strongly believe in the benefit of urban planning to prevent displacement of our poverty line/minority/vulnerable residents. 5. I bring to the CDAC five years of combined experience in Oregon land use planning, economic development and policy research. I am a dedicated public servant who has served three Oregon cities, two counties and one State agency in both paid and volunteer roles. I hold two years of professional experience administering Oregon's planning program in Marion County and Lane County, Oregon. I am currently an aviation planner for the Oregon Department of Aviation. 2. What specific contribution do you hope to make? I hold a Master of Community and Regional Planning from the University of Oregon, where my academic research focused on current challenges facing affordable housing in Oregon. I believe my academic research experience in Oregon housing policies would aid the CDAC in assessing the impacts of Oregon House Bills on current Springfield Municipal Code. My experience as an Oregon land use planner would aid the CDAC in developing recommendations for code adoption. Briefly describe your involvement in relevant community groups and activities. (Lack of previous involvement will not necessarily disqualify you from consideration.) I was raised in Springfield and was an active member in 4-H and youth mentoring activities. In 2020, I was appointed to the Environmental Management Committee for the City of Silverton, where I helped develop policy recommendations for the City Council that promoted recycling, waste reduction and improved downtown environmental health. I also recommended strategies for the City Council to fulfill the public policies within the City of Silverton Solid Waste Ordinance. 4. As a public servant, my goal is to serve all members of the public and provide them with the resource knowledge to build and engage in sustainable, livable communities. As a CDAC member, I would strive to address challenges facing public and environmental health, housing affordability, transportation planning, and responsible land use planning.
