ISSUE One applicant applied for the vacancies created by the partial term expirations of STATEMENT: Jose Antonio Huerta with expiration of 12/31/2021 and the early resignations of Alison Hennes as of December 31, 2021 and the early resignations of Joshua Melte term expiration of December 31, 2023. ATTACHMENTS: Attachment 1: Arts Commission Interviews -Schedule Questions Attachment 2: Application of Jose Antonio Huerta DISCUSSION/ The City received one applications for the three vacancies during the four week FINANCIAL recruitment for the Arts Commission which closed November 5, 2021. Jose IMPACT: Antonio Huerta, having filled a partial term, submitted an application for a full term ending December 31, 2025. The two remaining vacancies have expirations of December 31, 2023 and December 31, 2025. Members appointed to the Springfield Arts Commission shall be residents, property owners or business owners in Springfield, or specialists with expertise in the fields of visual, performance, literary, or multi -media art. No fewer than seven of the nine members must reside, own property, or own a business in Springfield (97477, 97478, or 97482). One commissioner, Uyen-thi Nguyen, resides outside Springfield. The Arts Commission requests the candidate be interviewed by the City Council. The Arts Commission believes the candidate is eligible and qualified to serve on the commission. Following the interview the Council may formally ratify the appointments during the Regular Meeting on December 6, 2021. I am a Charro or Mexican Horseman and for the last six years, i have organized cultural community events such as Noche Cultural, Hispanic Heritage, and Charro attire exhibitions at the Springfield Museum, and other locations. I also collaborate with the Springfield Public Library and the Springfield Museum on cultural activities for families. 2. What specific contribution do you hope to snake? My knowledge and experience as a Charro artist, as a member of the Latino community, as an immigrant, and as a person of color in a predominantly white community and state. 3. Briefly describe your involvement in relevant community groups and activities. (Lack of previous involvement will not necessarily disqualify you from consideration.) As previously stated, I participate in an advisory board to the Lane County Board of Commissioners called Lane County Equity and Access Advisory Board, I am the founder and board president of a cultural nonprofit organization called Comunidad y Herencia Cultural, I serve on a SELCO Community Credit Union Committee, and for the last year, I have served on the Springfield Arts Commission. 4. What community topics concern you that relate to this board f commission 1 committee? Why do you want to become a member? Lack of representation of people of color continues to be a concern. I want to stay on this board to continue building engagement with underserved communities, 5. Most boards/ commissions 1 committees meet monthly. Subcommittees may meet mare frequently. Meetings generally last one and one-half hours. It is highly recommended you attend a meeting before submitting the application.
