We did not find any building permits for a garage conversion at the subject address in
our files. We did find a Certlficate of Compliance for the propefty that was issued on
Jtlarch 31, 1978, certifying that the building and propefi met city ordinances at that
time. You indicated in our telephone conversation that the garage conversion
reportedly took place prior to that time. lf this is so, it would be covered by the 1978
inspection and ceftification.
For additional background information, Dan Smith, the inspector whose name
appears on the certificate, was an inspector and plans examiner for SpGingfield for
several years before moving to Salem to become the Director of the State Building
Codes Division in 1982.
