At your request, the SpringfieI,J Building Safe'Ly Division conducted an
inspection r-rf the bui.Ldins(s) at the above address. The purpose of the
inspecEion was -to determirre the suitability oI the building(s) for the
prc'posed us€: as indicated.
Based c,n the proposed occupancy, the tsxisting conditions which are
mentioned below do not meet the minimum tsuilding Safety Code requirements.
Corrective measures must Lre taken pri.or to occupancy to install , repair,

lanclinti shall measure at least five feet in the direction of travel, and
the Lrottom landing shall measure at least six feet in the direction of

Title III of the Ameri.cans with Disabilities Act requires public
accommodations such as your proposed day care facility to comply withfederal standards for the removal of physical barriers. Although thisoffice is not responsible for the enforcement of those requi-rements, the
Law does provide for a substantial civil Iiability for non-compliance.
Exterlor building waIls shal1 be of one-hour fire-resistive construction
when located less than ten feet from adjacent property lines, and sha1l beof two-hour fire-resistive construction when Located less than five feet
from adjacent property lines. Openints j-n such walls shall be protected
when less than ten feet from property l-ines and are not permitted in wallscloser than fj-ve feet from property 1ines.

Install an approved electrically supervised fire alarm and detection
system in the building to comply with Article L4 of Fire and Life Safety
Code. Smoke Detectors (particles-of-combustion type) sha11 b'e provided in
all roons utilized for sleeping and in the exit systems. Audibl-e alarm
devices shall be capable of being heard throughout the building, haII be
interconnected to all other alarm and detection devices and sha.l-I be
connected to an automatic auxiliary power supply which wiIl maintain
operatint enerty for a period of at least eight hours.
Corridor walls and ceilings shall be of not less than one-hour
fire-resistive construction, with protected openings, unless each
classroom has at least one exit door directly to the exterior.
Electrical
Wiring systems in daycare facilities serving more than 20 children shal1
be installed in metal ccrnduit or metal flex conduit.
The above i-tems are requirements for the existing structure only. Other
items such as parking, paving, si.te i-mprovements, sidewalks, etc., have
not been addressed as part of this inspection, and may be required as part
of the Sj-te Review process. Please contact the Springfield Planning
Division at this office regardint any necessary improvements to the site.
Building permits must be obtained for the above items which involve
repairs or modifications !o the structural, electrical, plumbj.nt or
mechanlcal systems of the building and for any additions or revisj.ons you
wlsh to make to the building-
