The inspection revealed damage whieh must be corrected in order for the building to comply with applicable City safety codes. The following items must be repaired or replaced: Structural Structural elements in the building were damaged by the fire to an extent which has rendered them potentially incapable of supporting the loads for which they were intended. Appropriate repairs or replacement shall be made to the materials or conditions described below: L. Wall and ceiling covering in the living room, dining area' kitchen and a portion of the bedroom shall be replaced. Exterior siding and soffit material above the entry landing is burned or missing. The guardrail at the top landing is loose and lacke sufficient lateral support. The eave ends of trusses, the roof sheathing and roof covering are damaged above the Iiving room window. Note: The trusses above this area were not accessible for inspection, and shall be examined for possible damage when access is provided. 5.The North endwall truss has a damaged bottom chord. The method of repair shall be designed by the original truss manufacturer or by a regis- tered professional Engineer or Architect. Please submit a stamped design drawing of the proposed repair with your application for permits. IYinton and Associates April 16, 1987 Page 2 Electrical Ceiling heat cables and general wiring throughout most of the area were subjected to temperatures exceeding that for which the protective insulation material was designed. Replace all wiring where this condition has oc- curred. (Please note that heating facilities capable of maintaining tempera- tures of 68 degrees must be provided for each habitable room.) Electrical devices (including receptacles, switches, light fixtures, fans, etc.) were subjected to heat damage and shall be replaced. The electrical service panel and wiring (including over current proteetion devices) shall be inspected for possible damage and replaced if neceE aary. windows were broken in the living room, dining area and bedroom. Replacement windows or glazing shall be of an insulated type, or approved storm windows shall be installed in conjunction with replacement glazing which is not insulated. No smoke detector was observed in the dwelling unit. Smoke detectors are required to be installed and maintained in aII residential buildings which are Ieased or rented. A detector shall be located in areas which lead to rooms usedfor sleeping purposesrand installed according to the manufacturer's recommenda- tions. Permits are required for most of the above items, or any additional modificationsyou may desire which involve changes or additions to the structural, electrical, mechanical or plumbing systems. Required permits must be obtained from thisoffice prior to commencing repairs. Please note that installation and repair of electrical systems on property whichis intended for lease, sale or rent must be done by an electrical contractor whois licensed by the state of Oregon. The least trross-sectional area at the charring is about 3OZ of the original cross-section or 2.63 square inches' Assurning a Doug. Fir-Larch construction grade, the aIlowable stregs in tension is 625 psi, Therefore, i.aS x 625* = 16011 lbs' which is greater than the actual load of 1260 lbs. The contractor added a scab beard (2x4") nailed with lod nails at 14" on center for additional support. The construction framing is adequate fqr the ex i st i nq I oads.
