HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 03 2021 National Library Week ProclamationNational Library Week Proclamation April 4 - 10, 2021 WHEREAS, libraries have long served as trusted institutions, often the heart of their cities, towns, schools, and academic campuses; and WHEREAS, libraries which promote the free exchange of information and ideas for all, and work to create an equitable society by providing access to accurate information, are cornerstones of democracy; and WHEREAS, libraries are a resource for all - regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity or socio-economic status by offering services and educational programming that transform lives and strengthen communities; and WHEREAS, we recognize librarians as information professionals who develop collections and programs that are wide-ranging and explore the diversity of our society and who provide expertise, services and guidance for patrons to access credible sources and material, making their own informed decisions about the world today; and WHEREAS, in a time of changes and challenges for individuals, communities and institutions adapting to COVID -19 emergency measures, libraries are leveraging technology to provide those they serve with digital resources and virtual activities to meet their educational and recreational needs even while physical locations are partially closed; and WHEREAS, libraries, librarians, library workers and supporters across America are celebrating National Library Week; NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that I Mayor Sean Van Gordon proclaim April 4- 10, 2021 National Library Week. _________________________________ Sean VanGordon Mayor
