SUBJECT: Sign at .I45 North 3rd Street
Dear 5ign 0wner:
Having been in the making fot three years, the Springfield Sign Ordinance is a product
of the combined efforts of a special sign subconnittee formed by the Planning Commis-
sion, representatives of the Springfieta CnamUer of Comnerce, and the Springfie-ld Com-
mittee for Citizen Involvement. A number of publlc heari.ngs also occured for further
citizen input. Then, as of January 1981, the Springfield City Council adopted the new
Sign Ordinance.
Section g-7-zt(s) of the Sign ordinance requires abandoned signs (signs vrhich aCvertise
a business no longer locatel on the premises) to be rcmoved. Abandoned signs nust be
removed by thirty (30) days fron the date of the notice of such viclation.

The Building Bcard of Appeals is empowered to hear and grant variances to the Sign 0rdin-
ance, provided a writteir appeal is iubmitted to the Super:.ntendent of Building within 10
