Dear Ms. Kent,
The City ved a permit application from you for the construction of a studio
apartment property is zoned Low Density Residential which
permir only one per except on corner lots of 6,000 square feet or more. The
remodel proposal appears to meet City standards because you will not be installing a full kitchen
(sink, refrigerator and stove), therefore by City terms you will not be creating a separate living
unit.
This letter is to inform you that the approval of building permits does not grant approval to have
a second unit at this site. If, at any time, this area is improved to dwelling unit standards, the unit
will be in violation of the Springfield Development Code (SDC) and the City may take legal
action to bring the site into compliance. As stated previously, as proposed, the plans meet City
standards but we wanted to inform you of the SDC standards in the hopes of avoiding any
potential problems or misunderstandings.
