NARRATIVE
Fix Auto Springfield is consistently working to improve the equipment we use for
our business. In doing so, we are creating the safest environment for our staff as
well as continuing to be conscious of our neighbors and our environment. We
are installing a new Garmat spray booth that will check all of those boxes and in
time will allow us to phase out our older spray booth as we work to replace it with
the most up to date technology as well.
The Garmat spray booth has many features that will help us improve our
refinishing processes:
• The booth has 2 twin intake blowers and a dual inlet reverse incline
blower to give superior air flow with minimal noise.
• The booth features a variable frequency motor resulting in less noise,
less energy usage and lower maintenance.
• The Garmat booth has a super high efficient filtering system
lessening the amount of particulates released into the atmosphere
and the downdraft technology creates the cleanest workspace for
our paint staff.
• This booth reuses 80% of heated air from the booth in bake mode.
This means less energy is used to heat incoming air.
• The double skin insulated cabin assists in the energy efficiency of this
booth and means less energy is used to keep the air heated during
bake mode
The addition of this technologically advanced booth ensures that our business can
continue to operate at a higher more efficient level. It will allow us to produce
more volume with less environmental impact as well as maximize the safety of
the working conditions for our staff.

1. Use of hazardous materials that pose a risk to groundwater that existed on the property prior to
May 15, 2000, if applicable.
We have occupied this building from 1994 to present. From 1994 to 2013 we were a
mechanical shop and collision shop combined. I have attached a coo v of the Site Plan
that was in place when we became EcoBiz Certified and had the mechanical shop. That
will show where the materials we had on site were located. In May of 2000 we would
have had oil, antifreeze, diesel, and small quantities of bottled petroleum products
associated with a mechanical shop. Those have been removed prior to the end of the
year2014
2. See attached Hazardous Material Inventory Statement—per Amy Chinitz, SDS Sheets are not
required to be attached.
3. A list of chemicals to be monitored through the analysis of groundwater samples and a
monitoring schedule if ground water monitoring is anticipated to be required: N/A
3. A detailed description of activities conducted at the facility that involve the storage, handling,
treatment, use or production of hazardous materials in quantities greater than the maximum
allowable amounts stored in Section 3.3-235A: N/A
4. A description of the primary and secondary containment devices proposed, and, if applicable,
clearly identified as to whetherthe devices will drain to the storm or sanitary sewer:
There are no new containment devices proposed or needed. We are NOT adding any additional
products. All products listed on the HMIS are already on site and stored in areas that are or
have secondary containment systems. We have no products that drain into the sanitary sewer
expect water from our wash bay. Nothing drains into the storm drains except rainwater runoff.
S. Proposed Hazardous Material Management Plan for the facility that indicates procedures to be
followed to prevent, control, and dispose of any unauthorized release of hazardous material:
Captured in Spill Plan
6. Description of the procedures for inspection and maintenance of containment devices and
emergency equipment:
Captured in Spill Plan
7. Description of the plan for disposition of unused hazardous materials or hazardous material
waste products over the maximum allowable amounts including the type of transportation, and
proposed routes: N/A

Section IV: Waste Disposal
We at Fix Auto have worked very hard to reduce the amount of waste we create. Due to the nature of our
business, we do encounter occasional small quantities of used oil as well as small quantities of used antifreeze that
we capture and store in an enclosed area on a secondary containment system. We also produce small quantities of
water-based paint waste as well as used solvent These substances are also stored in an enclosed area on a
secondary containment system. All items mentioned are taken away by a licensed Hazardous
Waste Hauler (Thermo Fluids, Inc.).
We have a designated wash bay to wash vehicles that are repaired here on site. The wash bay has a designated
drain that goes to the sanitary sewer. That drain also has a filter system that is cleaned in house but is also
professionally cleaned annually by Stormwater Protection Systems (last cleaned 2/7/2020).

Section V: Record Keeping (Inspection and Maintenance)
Description of our Inspection Program:
On the first Monday of each month an inspection will be performed in the paint mixing room. Inspection
will be done by the lead painter (Bryan Avery). Bryan will fill out form that is located on a clipboard
attached to the wall just outside the paint mixing room. If there are any issues found during the
inspection, Bryan will notify Cris Kuhnhausen so that the necessary steps can be taken to address any
issues. Logs will be reviewed by Cris Kuhnhausen. Completed logs will be kept in a file drawer in the
main office for a period of 3 years. The paint mixing room is a self-contained spill proof room, as part of
the monthly inspection process, any cracks noted in the floor will be addressed immediately.
The storage container located in the parking lot where used oil, antifreeze, water based paint waste and
used solvent are stored on a secondary containment system will be inspected on the first Monday of
every month by Cris Kuhnhausen. Storage drums will be inspected for any sign of leakage. A call to
Thermo Fluids will be made when containers reach 3/4 capacity so that the is never a risk of overflow and
the waste can be safely hauled away by Thermo Fluids. The secondary containment system will also be
thoroughly inspected each month to ensure there is no possibility of a spill.
Spill kits are in multiple areas of the shop and the outside container. A Spill Plan is posted on the main
employee entrance. The Spill Plan and location of spill kits will be discussed annually in a safety meeting.

Section VI: Spill Prevention
We are an Ecobiz-Certified business.
Paint mixing room is a self-contained, explosion -proof room. The paint is stored on an industrial mixing
bank designed specifically for securing and storing paint cans. All other product stored in the mixing
room are stored at eye level or below on an industrial shelving unit that is secured to the wall. All
products are stored in their original containers and the lids are securely fastened after each use. No
products are stored without a secured lid.
Products not stored in the paint mixing room are stored on industrial shelving units in the parts room at
eye level or below. All products are stored in the original container and kept closed.
Waste products are stored in an outside container on a secondary containment system. Waste is stored
in 55 -gallon drums (or less). Drums are in good condition and are monitored.
We do not have any outdoor equipment or back up generators.
The storm drain contains a filtrating system that we monitor. We have an outside company (Stormwater
Protection Systems) clean all drains on our property as needed.
Storm water drains are labeled and contain filters that are monitored and cleaned annually, or when
needed.
