Re: 3420 Virginia Street - Electrical Inspection
Dear Mr. Richards:
In mid-December Inspector Neil E11is met with a representative of Builders Elec-tric at 3420 virginia Street. Their intend was to enter the building in order toevaluate the electrical system found thele-in. Finding the building locked, In-spector Ellis proceeded to outline some of the areas oi general concern which theelectrician would be expected to investigate once he obtained entrance to the build-ing.
At sometime in the past, the electrical service equipment was altered to carry anincreased ampacity load. Therefore, the electrican ihoutd pay particular attlntionto the number and capacity of existing branch circuits,'"*pL.irity those intended toserve the kitchen and utility areas.
A1so, particular care should be taken in reviewing the number of existing receptacles. If it is determined that the spacing of receptacles will require the extensive useof extention cords, then safety will demand that additional receptacles be provided.
Although it is not our intent to require alterations to existing electrical systemsbased-on anticipated demands, we do have an obligation to point out that the demandsof todayrs life styles do render the electrical systems in most older buildings ob-solete, and therefore potentially hazardous.
Without a detailed inspection of the interior of the building, we are unable to of-fer more specific conments at this time. If, in the opinion-of your electrical con-tractor, a detailed inspection should be made prior to some antitipated work, pleasedo not hesitate to contact this office.
Si cerely,
Ronald B. Clark
Superintendent of Building
