To Whom It May Concern: STRUCTURAL At the request of the springfield Fire and Life Safety Department, the community servicesDivision/Building safety conducted an inspection oi the fire damage at the above address.The inspection revealed damage which must be corrected in orier for the building to ;:T#ili:l applicable citv Building safetv codes. The forlowing items must be repaired 225 FIFTH STREET SPRINGFIELD, OR 97477 (503) 726_3753 FAX (503) 726_368s 1 The fire was centered in the framing around the manufactured fireplace. studswhich were installed too close to the fireplace unit shall be reinstalled with therequired clearance specified by the fireplaice manufactu"er. other fire damagedportions of the structure shall be replaced as needed. The lire stop at the ceiling line of the chimney was damaged and shall be replacedwith appropriate approved material. A review of our files indicate that we have no record of a pennit and requiredinspection for the fireplace insert. Fireplace inserts must be designed and designatedby the manufacturer for use in the type of fireplace in which it is installed. In-lieu-of any permit records for the insert, we must require evidence from the insertmanufacturer that the insert was designed for the sf,ecific brand of metal fireplace used in the home. Without such evidence or ...ord of permit, the insert must be removed from the fireplace. The insert is a type no longer approved for use in Oregon and cannot be resold in the state. 2. 3.
