Dear Mr. I,lilson,
Upon inspection of the storage warehouse at 402 Shelley Street, Springfietd, 0R, theSpringfield Building Division has found the following violations:
INSULATION
The State of 0regon Structural Specialty Code and Fire and Life Safety Code, Section
1718 (C) reads:
All insulation materials including facings, such as vapor barriers or breather papers
installed within roof-ceiling assemb'lies, shall have a flame-spread rating not to exceed
25 and a smoke density not to exceed 450 when tested in accordance with UBC Standard
No.42-1.
PLUMBING
1. Interior walls in bathrooms shall be opened for inspection in accordance with the
0regon State Plumbing Specialty Code Section 318(A).
All new plumbing work and such portions of existing systems as may be affected by
new work, or any changes, shall be inspected by the Administrative Authority to
insure compliance with all the requirements of this Code and to assure that theinstallation and construction of the plumbing system is in accordance with approved

Upon exposing pipe in the walls, another inspection will be needed to determine
further corrections.
2. Water heater cold water piping shall have a 3/4" fullway control valve and relief
valve piping as per 0SPSC 1005(B), 1007(E).
(B) A 3/4" fullway control valve shall be installed on the cold water supply pipe
to each water heater at or near the water heater.
(E) Relief valves located inside a building shall be provided with a full size drain
of galvanized steel or hard drawn copper piping and fittings and shall extend
from the valve to the outside of the building with the end of the pipe not more
than two (2) feet (.6m) or less than six (6) inches (tSZ.4 mm) above the ground
pointing downward. Such drain may terminate at other approved locations.

3. Cold water supply from other section of the building shall be 3/4" pipe.
MECHANICAL
1. Exhaust fans in toilet facilities shall be piped to the outside free air as per the
State of 0regon Structural Specialty Code and Fire and Life Safety Code. Section 705
2. If the suspended unit heater in the storage area is not to be used, it shalt be dis-
connected and removed. The gas piping shall be plugged or capped off at the wall.If the unit heater is to be used, it shall be connected as per the State of 0regon
Mechanical Specialty Code and Mechanical Fire and Life Safety Code within ten daysof receipt of this letter, by January 7, 1982.
a. Gas piping to be tested Section 2208(A). Gas piping to hold an air pressure
test of 10 psi for a period not less than 15 minutes.
b. Venting Section 901
Every appliance designed to be vented shall be vented to the outside air.
3. Furnace not installed properly. No disconnect switch on the furnace. Section 509
4. Furnace is electric counterflow type. It is to be installed in the vertical posi-tion only. Plenum is not sized correctly and connection of ducts does not meet
Chapter 10 Section 1002 (A & C).
5. Circulation air shall be taken from conditioned space, not attic storage area. Sec-tion 706
6. Plumbing vents are terminated in the storage area. Circulated air for a heating
system shall not be taken from areas with objectionable odors. Section 706
7. Furnaces installed in attic space shall be listed for installation in such area andfor use on combustible flooring. Section 708
8. Insulation of ducts - every supply and return plenum shall be insulated as per
Table 10-0 in Section 1005.
9. Disconnect electrical connection required adjacent to and in sight from equipment
served. Section 509
10. Window air conditioning unit shall be used in window only as per manufacturer's
instal lation standards.
ELECTRICAL
1. Electrical permits and inspections are required on all wiring. ORS 479.550
2. Grounding conductor shall be run with current carrying conductors in flexible conduit
feeding e'lectric furnace located above office area when more than 6 feet in totallensth. NEC 2s0-91 (B) Ex 1(A)
3. Disconnect switch required to be installed within sight of electric furnace.
NEC 430-4
4. Flexible conduit shall be properly secured. NEC 350-4

5. AII metal boxes including light fixture boxes shall be properly grounded. NEC 250-
114(A)
6. Polarized outlet not permitted to have reverse polarity. NEC 200-11
With the exception of the unit heater, al'l other corrections shall be made by February ?6,
1982, 60 days of receipt of this letter.
Before the above violations are to be corrected, the proper permits must be obtained.
These permits may be obtained at 225 North 5th Street from B a.m. until 5 p.m.
