Dear lTlr. Clark:
Aquaculture Northuast u,as inspected by the City oF Springfield onDecember 30, 1981 . llle are a neu buslnesa ruhich ui11 be drying andpackaging salmon. The plumbing inspector told us that ue needed a
meatpackerB t interceptor tuith a 2A gpm f lour valve and 4A Ib. hold-ing tank under a stainless steel sink urhich rui11 be installed soon.ffris sink u,ill be used for uashing and rinsing knives and otherutensils used in dressing tha salmon.
Accordlng to Section 708 of the 0regon Plumbing $pecialty Coder dninterceptor tfshall be provided when. o o nEC€!ssary for the proper
handling of liquid ulastes containing greasB, flammable uastes, sand,
solids, acid or aIkaIlne substances or other ingredients harmful
to the building drainage system, the public or private seuer crr topublic or private seE,age disposalrr. lIe wonrt be discharglng any of
the above uhich ruould be harmf uI to any drains or eeu, ers. The only
solids uhich urould be discharged into the drain uould be small bits
of f ish ulhich uould be ruashed of f the knives and utensils. I t ulould
probably take a year or morB to accumulate 4U lbs of these solids.
tl/e feel that the requiremant for an interceptor on this sink is not
appllcable to the purpose for uhieh the sink ruill be used. Under
Section 7A9, though ure are a fish packlng and curing establishment,
ue trill not be discharging any grtsase.
If out routine changes in the future so that the sink is used for
other purposes it is our understanding that uB rsould be reinspected
to determine if ue needed an interceptor at that time.
lle raspectfully request a variance on that section of the code,
