FIRE PHOTECTION CODE CONSULTANT ' PI-AN CHECKING CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION Aashild Surcamp 2890 Martinique Avenue Eugene, OR 97408 RE: 545 N. 28th Street, Springfield, CMU Door Infill,WO#17320 As you requested on December 8, 2005 I visited this site to observe the installation of CMU garuge door infill on the west wall of the building. The work was partially completed. The majority of the block was in the south garage door wall and approximately half the block was in the north garage door. Steel reiuforcement was in place as described in your attached plan. The rebar is doweled into the existing concrete slab and block wall 6". The placement of the steel and the CMU, which are to be solid grouted, is sufficient to resist seismic and wind loading. The CMU shall be filled with 2000 psi minimum 28 day shength grout. No special inspection is required. Photos attached. In addition to infilling the two garage door, it is proposed to expand the window opening. A saw cut of two courses of CMU to extend the opening 1' 4" lower is acceptable. The infill of the garage door with CMU blocks and doweled to the existing concrete slab provides sufficient lateral load strength to compensation for shear loads lost at the base of the window Please contact me if you have further questions.
