The inspection revealed damage which must be corrected in order for the building to comply with applicable City safety codes. The following items must be repaired or replaced: Structural The ceiling and wall materials in the area of the fire were damaged to a degree waranting replacement. Windows were broken aa a result of the fire. Replacement window glazing must be of an insulating type, or storm windows must be added when the single pane glazing is replaced. Electrical The electrical service panel and circuit breakers were sufficiently damaged by the fire to require complete replacement. Attic wiring which servicee electrical lighting and outlets hae been subjec- ted to temperatures exceeding that for which the wiring insulation wag designed, and must be replaced. Electrical devices in, and adiacent to the fire area which have been damaged shatl be replaced. This includes light fixtures, outlets, ewitches, heaters and other similar devices. During our inspection, we also noted the following structural deficiencies which are not related to the fire, but which repreaent potentially hazardous conditions for the occupants which must also be comected: 6. The rear portion of the building (that \ras apparently added to the main building) has insufficient foundation supporte, and has failed to carry the imposed structural loads. The wall structure of this part of the building is also inadequate with stud spacing greater than 2 feet in some locations. I. 2, 3. 4, 5. 225 North Sth Street Springfield, Oregon 97477 503/776'3753 a 7 8. Henry Dizney 27 January 1987 Page 2 Also, the rafter/ceiling joists at the addition are spliced and are strue- turally incapable of withstanding the roof loads. The lean-to roof attached to the north side of the building is supported in the corner by a single 2x4 post which is in direct contact with the ground without proper support, protection or restraint. The steps serving the rear door to the building are potentially hazardous, and shall be replaggd. Steps shall be installed with risers no greater thang inches, and with treads at least 9 inches deep. All treads shall be of equal depth and all risers shall be of equal height with a marimum differ- ence in dimension no greater than 3/S"between the largest and emallest tread or riser. 9.The bathroom floor deck appears to have extensive dryrot damage. The substructure at this location may also be damaged due to dryrot. You may elect to repair, rebuild or demolish the structure, in order to comply with the City code requirements for hazardous buildings. Permits and inspections are required for any of these options, and nay be obtained from this office prior to commencing work. If you elect to rebuild or remodel the structure, please submit two complete sets of plans for our review when application for permits is made. Please note that installation and repair of electrical systems on property which is intended for }ease, sale or rent must be done by an electrical contractor who is licensed by the state of Oregon. If we can be of assistance in clarifying the requirements, or the options available to bring the building into compliance, please call us at 726-3759, Sincerely, .n rfiu4m-,-- Don Moore Structural Inspector ce, Dave Puent, Building Official Mike Hudman, Fire Marshal Scott Hunter, c/o Scott's Trading Post, 4056 Main St., Spfd. z"aez?rD-15 SPRII{GFIELD FIRE DEPA?.TMENT FIRE DAI,IAGE REP()RT OR ELECTRICAL HAZARD fM01 lr t 1 ,l rN DATE:-6 TO: FROI,I: SUBJECT: Bui'lding Department Springfield Fire DePartment Structural Damage to Building Addres s or 'loca ti on of bu'i 1 d i ng a c1 &lt Nanre of ot',ner tZ/i,t Or<, I /o{ Type of bui'lding '2"r;.{-- , ,!'(- (Dwel 1 i ng, Store, t'larenouse ' e tc. ) Estimated value of buiiding Estimated loss to building s 2z s .3 Date of f ire ,/- / - .?'7 Location of damage in building C Zt/.t-f ('L7z/nt ( DC) /,),,rx-<- (Roof, I,Jall, Exterior'Interior, etc. Structura'l weakness as a resu'lt of the fire x5 (Burneci rafters, Beams 'ts, etc. )Joi s Additional Pertinent informatio n- Electrical Hazard / r/'iru1 Bz--..7/-zZ€ (tli ri nq , 0utl ets, etc. D ,1 z< cc Siqned Zj,a z/kr*- 6< ) DAT' r\ )L.
