Re: Private Bridge Calculations
Dear Mr. Carlin:
I have reviewed your proposed bridge design using the 8" x 18" timber stringers and
the 4" x 12" timber deck. According to my calculations which are enclosed, the
bridge can carry up to a 16,400-pound nvo-axle truck without overloading the stringers
or decking. This should be more than adequate for the small truck or pickup that will
be using the bridge.
I have also reviewed the foundations and found that the reinforcement required is five
No. 5 bars instead of the three No. 5 bars you have shown. The extra bars will help
prevent possible cracking, if long-term settlement of the footings occurs in the future.
