''600'' SERIES PIPE RESTRAINING SYSTEM SUBMITTAL INFORMATION USE The Series 600 is a multi-purpose pipe restraint system for PVC and ductile iron pipe joints. Configurations are available for us on bell and spigot joints, mechanicaljoints, Romac Style 501 and 511 flex couplings. They are engineered to eliminate the need for thrust blocks or other methods of restraint. Not for use on polyethelene pipe, plain end mechanicaljoint fittings or steel pipe. MATERIALS Castings The restrainer rings are cast from ductile (nodular) iron, meeting or exceeding ASTM A 536, Grade 65-45-12. Restraining Fasteners 3/4' Restraining rods, T-bolts, heavy hex nuts, and coupling nuts are high strength low alloy steel meeting AWWA C111 composition specifications. National coarse thread. Allowable force per bolt is 7,500 pounds when properly installed. Clamping Fasteners The 4'and 6" sizes use high strength low alloy steel trackhead bolts. Steel meets AVV\IVA C111 composition specifications. National coarse rolled thread and heavy hex nuts. The 8'through 12'sizes use heavy hex Grade 8 bolts. Sizes 4" and 6' use 5/8', 8' 314",10" and 12" use 718". Coatings Shop coat applied to cast parts for corrosion protection in transit. Putttps Brancfr 607{081 way $ D-040-C PN 16 COMBINATION AIR VALVE PATENTED Description The D-040 Combination Air Valve has the features of both an Air-release valve dnd an Airlvacuum valve. The Air-release component of the D-040 was designed to automatically release to the atmosphere small pockets of air as they accumulate at local high poina along a pipeline when the pipeline or piping system is full and op€rating under pressure. The Airlvacuum component was designed to automatically discharge or admit large volumes of air during the filling or draining of a pipeline or piping system. This valve will open to relieve negative pressures whenever water column separation occurs. Applications - Pump stations: after the pump and after the check valve - After and before shut-offvalve - After deep-well pump - On long hydraulic gradient water supply lines - At peaks relatives to hydraulic gradient - At the end of lines - Before water meter - On strainers Operation The air & vacuum component, with the large orifice, discharges air at high flow rates during the filling of the system and admits air into the system at high flow rates during its drainage. High velocity air, cannot blow the float shut. water entry will cause sealing of the valve. At any time during system operation, should internal pressure of the system fall below atmospheric pressure, air will re-enter the systems. The smooth release of air prevents pressure surges and other destructive phenomena. AdmiBing air in response to negative pressure protects the system from destructive vacuum conditions, prevents damage caused by water column separation. Air re-entry is essential to efficiently drain the system. The automatic continuous acting component releases entrapped air from peaks of pressurized systems. Pockets of accumulated air may cause the following destructive phenomena: - Impediment of effective flow and hydraulic conductivity of the system along with a throuling effect as would a partially closed valve. In extreme cases this will cause complete flow stoppage. - Accelerate cavitation damages. - High pressure surges. - Accelerate corrosion of metal parts. - Danger of high-energy burst of compressed air. - Inaccuracies in flow metering. As tlre system starts to flll, the valve functlons accordlng to the following stages: 1. Entrapped air is released by the valve 2. Liquid enters the valve, lifting the float which draws the "seal plug" to its sealing position. 3. Entrapped aiq which accumulates at peaks along the system (where combination air valves should be installed), rises to the top of the valve, which in tum displaces the liquid in the valve's body. 4. The float descends, peeling the "rolling seal", the smaller orifice opens and the accumulated air is released. 5. Liquid penetrates into the valve and the float rises unrolling the rolling seal to its sealing position. When lnternal pr.essure falls below atmosphedc pressufe (negative pressure): 1. Drainage Handbook Specifications r 7-9 HANCOR BLUE SEAL@ WT IB P|PE (per AASHTO) SPECIFICATIONS Scope This specification describes 4- through 60-inch (100 to 1500 mm) Hancor BLUE SEAL WT lB pipe (per AASHTO) for use in gravity flow applications. Pipe Requirements BLUE SEAL WT lB pipe (per AASHTO) shall have a smooth interior and annular exterior corrugations. €. 4- through 1O-inch (100 to 250 mm) shall meet AASHTO M252, Type S. - 12- through 60-inch (300 to 1500 mm) shall meet AASHTO M294, Type S or ASTM F2306.-. Manning's "n'value for use in design shall be 0.012. Joint Performance Pipe shall be joined with the BLUE SEAL WT lB joint meeting the requirements of AASHTO M252, AASHTO M294, oTASTM F2306. 4- through 60-inch (100 to 1500 mm) shall be watertight according to the requirements of ASTM D3212. Gaskets shall meet the requirements of ASTM F477. Gaskets shall be installed by the pipe manufacturer and covered with a removable, protective wrap to ensure the gasket is free from debris. A joint lubricant available from the manufacturer shall be used on the gasket and bell during assembly. 12- through 60-inch (300 to 1500 mm) diameters shall have a reinforced bell with a polymer composite band. The bell tolerance device shall be installed by the manufacture. Fittings Fittings shall conform to AASHTO M252, AASHTO M294, or ASTM F2306. Bell and spigot connections shall utilize a spun-on or welded bell and valley or saddle gasket meeting the watertight joint performance requirements of AASHTO M252, AASHTO M294 oTASTM F2306. Field Pipe and Joint Performance To assure watertightness, field performance verification may be accomplished by testing in accordance with ASTM F2487. Appropriate safety precautions must be used when field-testing any pipe material. Contact the manufacturer for recommended leakage rates. Material Properties Virgin materialfor pipe and fitting production shall be high-density polyethylene conforming with the minimum requirements of cell classification 424420C for 4- through 1O-inch (100 to 250 mm) diameters, and 435400C for 12- through 60-inch (300 to '1500 mm) diameters, as defined and described in the latest version of ASTM D3350, except that carbon black content should not exceed 4o/o.The 12- through 60-inch (300 to 1500 mm) virgin pipe material shall comply with the notched constant ligament-stress (NCLS) test as specified in Sections 9.5 and 5.1 of AASHTO M294 and ASTM F2306 respectively. lnstallation lnstallation shall be in accordance with ASTM D2321 and Hancor recommended installation guidelines with the exception that minimum cover in trafficked areas for 4- through 48-inch (100 to 1200 mm) diameters shall be one foot (0.3 m) and for 54- and 60-inch ('1350 and 1500 mm) diameters shall be 2 ft (0.6 m) in single run applications. Backfill for minimum cover situations shall consist of Class 1, Class 2 (minimum 90% SPD) or Class 3 (minimum 90%) material. Maximum fill heights depend on embedment material and compaction level; please refer to Technical Note 2.01.
