Subject: Fire damage at 413 N. 2nd Street, Springfield, Oregon
Dear Ms. Jepson:
At the request of the Springfield Fire and Life Safety Department, we recentlyconducted an inspection of the fire damage at the above address. The inspec-tion revealed damage which requires correction in order for the building tocomply with applicable city codes. The following items are poLentially
hazardous, and shall be corrected before the affected area can be occupied:
Structural
1. The damaged wood stud in the west wall of the bedroom must be replaced.
2. The gypsum board ceiling material is missing in part of the bedroom, and isburned in part of the kitchen area.
Electrical
1. The electrical wiring in the bedroom wall and ceiling was exposed to highertemperatures than the insulation was designed to withstant, and must bereplaced with new approved wiring. Any wiring located above the kitchenceiling in the burn area may also have been damaged, and in need of replace-ment.
2. Replace the electrical switch and outlet that were damaged by the fire.
3. The wall heater, which was the alleged cause of the fire, was removed. Aaource of heat must be provided for all habitable rooms and areas, which iscapable of maintaining a temperature of ?0 degreee F. at a point three feetabove the floor.
4. All fuses in the electrical distribution panel are oversized for the wiringthey protect. The fuses must be replaced with the proper sizes, or a neweenrice installed to correct the condition.
Permits will be required for the structural and electrical items noted above,or any additional modifications you may desire which involve changes oradditions to the structural, electrical, mechanical or plumbing aysteEs.
