Conversation w/ Jeff Coffee re: 349'l Watermark City Building Permit #990325 Today, I spoke with Jeff Coffee regarding requirements for drains at the subject p.p"rty. i previously talked to Bill Shaub about his observation that no perimeter iooiing'drains exist around the building. I told Bill that we could not require such drains] but we should strongly recommend their use in an attempt to stabilize the moisture content of the soii under the buildings. This treatment should minimize potentialfor soil expansion and contraction. I also explained this to Mr. Coffee' Mr. Coffee was not concerned about the soil conditions since he had used the services of Branch Engineering to review the soil stability, and the engineer did not make such a requirement. He was more concerned with the underfloor drain, which he said is located below the street gutter elevation. He wanted information on methods of installing a sump and drain for such conditions. I suggested that he talk to the city Plumbing inspector regarding such installations. I mentioned to Mr. coffee that we now have written information from the soils engineer for the subdivision recommending the use of perimeter drains to maintain constant moisture content in the soil undLr the buildings. I also told him of the problem that the public Works Dept. recently had with differential movement under areas of 35th street. He said he was aware of that problem, which was near his construction project, but he does not believe that a similar condltion exists on his site' o Page 1
