Dear Sign Owner:
I{aving been in the making for three years, the Springfield Sign Ordinance is a product
of tne combined efforts of a special sign subconmittee formed by the Planning Connis-
sion, representatives of the Springfield Chamber of Comnerce, and the Springfie_ld Con-
mittee for Citizen Involvement. A nunber of public hearings also occured for futher
citizen input. Then, as of January 1981, the Springfield City Ccuncil adopted the new
Sign Ordinance.
Section g-7-21(4) of the Sign Ordinance requires specific violations to be corrected
by the sign ouner or lessor when signs are potentially hazardous. Signs which have
electrical violations must be corrected by 30 days fron the date of this notice.
As a result of the recent City-wide sign suryey, the following violation was found on
your property relative to the one year compliance time limit:
1) Remove the non-metal1ic cable. Oregon Electrical Safety Specialty Code (E.S-S.C.
600-Lz(a) ) .
2) provide cover for live parts exposed when cpen for setting timer (E.S.S'C.380-(5)
and 110-3(a) (s)).
3) Seal aLl unused openings (E.S.S.C. 384-17).
Unless you are both the owner of the building and operator of the business, all elec-
trical corrections must be perforned by a licensed electrical contractor.
By February 1.2, 1.982 , the abcve referenced violation of the Springfield

1981, it is possible you have already taken steps to correct or have completed correc-
ting this viclation. If this is the case, please contact this office as socn as pos-
sible. Your required corrections in the future may affect how you choose to perform
the cugently required correction. By January 1, 1990, 9 years from the adoption of
the sign ordinance - all. individual signs on the pole sign may not exceed 40 square
feet. "Godfathert s Pizza" is 40 square feet; "Sub 6 Soup'r is 48 square feet; "Chapnan
Brothers" appears to be approximately 48 square feet also.

The Building Board of Appeals is empowered to hear and grant variances to the Sign
6rdinance, frovidea a wiitten appeal is subnitted to the Superintendent of Building
within 10 Ciys of the date of receipt of this letter. The Board of Appeals may
grant a variince with regard to the unusual size, shape, or dinension of a site or
f,".rrs" cf existing str,.r-tures therecn in relation to a sign or its placement. The
Board of Appealr rnry NOT grant a variance based on economic hardship.
