Subject: Electrical Safety Inspection at .l24 Mill Street
Dear Mr. Laird:
At the request of the Springfield F'ire Department, an Electrical Safety Inspection
was performed by the Springfield Bujlding Safety Divis'ion on August 16, .I984, at
the above referenced address. At that time, the following unsafe and hazardous
conditions were found to exist that do not meet minimum requirements of the Spring-field Electrical Specialty Safety Code:
l. Use of extensjon cords js not approved for permanent wiring. Install outlets
suppljed from metallic raceway system adjacent to cord connected equipment.
Extension cords can cause fires.
2. Install approved cord and cap connections to suspended lighting fixtures. Proper
groundi ng 'increases saf ety.
3. Replace missing sw'itch and outlet cover plates, junction box covers and install
knock-out seals where conduits have been removed. 0pen holes can allow electrical
sparks or molten metal to escape and cause fire.
NOTE: The apparent use of the building requires a metallic raceway system as the
wiring method. Repair and maintenance of the existing raceways would eliminate
most of the existing defects.
(E.S.C.) 0regon Electrical Safety Law Section 2?-110 (b) states that electrical
work performed on property that'is for rent, sale or 1ease, shall be done by an
electrical contractor.
The Building Safety Divis'ion will check on the progress in 30 d
of this letter. Please direct alf inquiries to the Springfield
Division at 726-3753.
Si ncerely,
