DATE OF WORK SESSION: December 1, 2009
TO: Springfield Planning Commission PLANNING COMMISSION
TRANSMITTAL
FROM: David Reesor, Senior Transportation Planner MEMORANDUM
SUBJECT: point2point Solutions Transportation Demand Management Programs
ISSUE: Point2point Solutions is the regional organization that provides and coordinates
transportation options for the Eugene – Springfield metropolitan area. They provide a
comprehensive, cross-jurisdictional approach to managing the demand for road use by offering
a variety of programs and services to reduce congestion on roadways. During this work session,
Point2point Solutions will present program information to the Planning Commission and outline
future steps towards improving transportation options in Springfield.
DISCUSSION: Addressing Transportation Demand Management (TDM) is a requirement of
TransPlan, the Eugene-Springfield Metropolitan Area Transportation Plan. Point2point Solutions
helps Springfield address these TDM requirements in collaborations with Eugene, Lane County
and Lane Transit District.
In 1995 Lane Transit District partnered with local jurisdictions and offered businesses,
organizations, and educational institutions a new program: Commuter Solutions. Recently,
Commuter Solutions has changed its name to point2point Solutions, and is actively marketing
its programs and services. Since its inception, point2point Solutions has offered the Eugene-
Springfield area transportation management strategies. These include discounted group pass
programs, transit vouchers, emergency ride home programs, information on telecommuting and
the associated tax benefits, Park & Rides, carpool/vanpool matching, education and marketing
support services, and parking management information. These fulfill the primary mission of the
point2point Solutions program to provide outreach, education, marketing, and promotion of
transportation options to the citizens in our community.
Point2point Solutions Program Manager, Connie Bloom Williams, will present program
information to the Planning Commission and outline future steps towards improving
transportation options in Springfield. An opportunity for questions and comments will be
provided during the presentation.
