When I arrived, I observed that the site had been cleared of structures and stripped of all topsoil and vegetation. I observed a utility trench excavation in the central portion of the property. Exposed soils at the site consist of non-plastic to low plasticity silt. The exposed subgrade in the vicinity of the proposed dupiex was evaluated by probing using a %-inch diameter steel probe. Based on penetration resistance with the probe, the site soils were generally medium stiff. A hand-augered boring was advanced to a depth of 5 feet below the existing ground surface along the north side ofthe proposed duplex. Soils observed in the hand auger were generally consistent with the exposed subgrades, but became increasingly stiff with increasing depth.
