Lewis/Police Staff Phone No: 541-726-3729 Estimated Time: 30 Minutes S P R I N G F I E L D C I T Y C O U N C I L Council Goals: Mandate ITEM TITLE: SPRINGFIELD POLICE ADVISORY COMMITTEE APPLICANT INTERVIEWS ACTION REQUESTED: Interview six applicants for the Springfield Police Advisory Committee to fill five committee vacancies. Make recommendations on which applicants to appoint to the committee vacancies. ISSUE STATEMENT: Six (6) candidates have applied for five (5) vacancies on the Springfield Police Advisory Committee created by resignations of three past members and initial term expirations of two current members. ATTACHMENTS: ATT1: Interview Agenda ATT2: Interview Questions ATT3: Applications ATT4: Police Advisory Committee Current Roster DISCUSSION/ FINANCIAL IMPACT: The City received six applications for five open positions on the Springfield Police Advisory Committee after a six week process. Miguel A. Gonzalez Teresa (Terri) A. Dillon Johnny L. Kirschenmann Robert L. Rivas Michael E. Bean Michelle L. Khanthanhot The Springfield Police Advisory Committee is currently a ten member volunteer committee appointed by Council, consisting of four neighborhood/citizen-at-large representatives, one School District 19 representative, one Willamalane Park and Recreation District representative, two representatives of the local business community, one cultural minority community representative, and one faith community representative. Committee membership is a four-year term, with no more than two consecutive terms served by any one member. The five open committee positions include two citizen-at-large positions, one local business position, one cultural minority community position, and one faith community position. The faith community position, cultural minority community position, and a citizen-at-large position are open due to past representative resignations. One citizen-at-large position and a local business position are open due to the expiration of the initial four year committee term for Michelle Khanthanhot and Michael Bean; both representatives have reapplied and expressed interest in serving a second term on the committee. Based on the applications received, the faith community position may not have a qualified applicant within this application process. The Council decision on these appointments is scheduled for the regular meeting of Monday, November 19, 2018.
