DISCUSSION: The Downtown Citizen Advisory Committee was appointed by the CCI in 2009 to serve as the Planning Advisory Committee for the Downtown Urban Design Plan and
Implementation Strategy project, consistent with the City’s Goal 1 Citizen Involvement
program. At their March 7th and April 25th meetings, Downtown CAC members discussed their
goals for the next year, and reviewed the vacancies on the committee. It is the committee’s consensus and staff’s recommendation to begin a recruitment process to
fill three vacancies on the CAC and to add new positions to the committee roster.
Committee members and staff are interested in seeking new members who have a passion for Springfield and who will bring new expertise and perspectives to the
committee to assist with the Downtown plan implementation tasks the committee will
be working on this year and next.
The proposal, if approved by the CCI, would add two designers, a realtor or developer, a representative of NEDCO, and change one “General Public” position to “Area Resident.” The Springfield School District position is proposed to be changed to
“Springfield Downtown School” to attract a candidate representing one of the three downtown schools. If these recommendations are approved, staff will begin recruitment immediately and bring the applications to the CCI for review at a future
session.
