Having been in the making for three yoars, the Springfield Sign Ordinance is a product
of the combined efforts of a special sign subcommittee formed by the Planning Commis-
sion, representatives of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce, and the Springfield Com-
mittee for Citizen Involvement. A number of public hearings also occured for futher
citizen input. Then, as of January 1981, the Springfield City Council adopted the new
. Sign Ordinance. '
Section 9-7-21 (4) of the Sign Ordinance requii'es specific violations to be corrected'
by the sign owner or lessor when signs are potentially hazardous. Signs which have
electrical violations must be corrected by 30 days from the date of this notice.
As a result of the recent City-wide sign survey, the following violation was found on
your property relative to the one year compliance time limit:
Open wiring to the projecting sign must be removed.' Install conduit as the wiring
method. Oregon E1ectri::a1 Safety Specialty Code 600":2l(a).
. ,< '" "
Unless you are both the owner of the building and operator of the business, all elec-
trical corrections must be performed by a t'icensed electrical contractor.
By February 12, 1982 , the above referenced violation of the Springfield
Sign Ordinance must be corrected. Because the sign survey was completed in July of
'1981, it is possible you have already taken steps to correct or have completed correc-
ting this violation. If this is the case, please contact this office as soon as pos-
sible. Your required corrections in the future may affect how you choose to perform
the currently required correction. By January 1,,1986 (the 5 year compliance deadline),
the sign on your building must comply with the 1981 Sign Ordinance. Only 1 wall sign
is permitted (either flat wall or projecting) on your Main Street frontage. The pro-
jecting sign projects 7'9" intopublic right of way. It may project only {, feet.
