Dear Emily and Taylor,
I am pleased to inform you that the Springfield Public Library 2017 Ready to Read Grant project has
been selected as one of our four Outstanding Projects. Springfield Public Library was selected for this
award because this project established a good model for other libraries and developed strong
partnerships to improve services to underserved youth.
Springfield Public Library used state funds to create and maintain a Play and Learn Activity Center
transformed every six weeks into a new themed early learning play area. Additionally, you intentionally
focused at every storytime on sharing early literacy information with parents and caregivers, building
kindergarten readiness into each session.
Springfield Public also focused on building literacy outside library walls by working with multiple
community partners to share Welcome Baby! Kits with new families. You also supported families
building literacy at home with your bilingual theme kit collection and parent resource collection, both
key ways you are impacting literacy in your community.
Your work fostering early learning both inside and outside your library building in Springfield is truly
impressive. Springfield Public Library deeply matters to the children in your community. Congratulations
on implementing this outstanding project!
Please contact me (503-378-2528, greta.bergquist@state.or.us) to schedule an award presentation to
your library board or city council. I look forward to visiting your library and presenting you with this
award.
Sincerely,
