Attachment 1 From: Nick Nelson <nicknelsonre@gmail.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 27, 2017 3:21:42 PM To: Springfield Mayor; VANGORDON Sean (Springfield Councilor); WYLIE Hillary (Springfield Councilor); MOORE Sheri (Springfield Councilor); STOEHR Leonard (Springfield Councilor); WOODROW Marilee (Springfield Councilor); PISHIONERI Joe (Springfield Councilor) Subject: Resignation Mayor and City Council, I would like to thank the Mayor and City Council for trusting in my ability to learn and then apply the many complex and interrelated laws and principles of land use planning, community development, the benefits of redeveloping at higher density and intensity, and the importance of a well-informed citizenry. These past 4+ years have been an extraordinary time for the City of Springfield; many of the recommendations and decisions made by the Commission and forwarded to the Council are yet to be felt, but will absolutely guide and enhance subsequent actions impacting the prosperity and livability of this community far into the future. I consider adoption of our own urban growth boundary, beginning the process of transitioning from the Metro Plan to the Springfield 2030 Plan, and our recent ugb expansion to be events of such significance and rarity that only a very fortunate few elected and appointed officials are privileged to experience even after years and years of service. The Council’s decision to compliment all of these land use actions with a 3-4 year commitment to re-write the Development Code specifically to implement these community-wide visions is further proof, as if it was ever needed, of the truly transformative future that awaits all of Springfield. Such a fantastic start to an equally fantastic future makes it easier, but also more difficult, to submit my resignation from the Springfield Planning Commission. There is never a good time to step down, but circumstances not yet present at my recent reappointment to the Planning Commission now require me to resign effective immediately . It’s been a pleasure and honor serving the citizens of Springfield and the Mayor and Council. I will always consider this period of my life as an extremely rewarding time for me personally as well as a watershed era for Springfield. If needed I could possible serve until my replacement, but I will speak to my family about that this weekend.
