HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 03 Library Week ProclamationLibrary Week Proclamation April 8-15, 2018 WHEREAS, the library in Springfield and libraries everywhere play a vital role in supporting the quality of life in our communities; and WHEREAS, our nation’s public, school, academic and special libraries make a difference in the lives of millions of Americans today, more than ever; and WHEREAS, library workers help people of all ages and backgrounds find and interpret the information they need to live, learn, and thrive in life; and WHEREAS, library buildings serve as community centers for educational, recreational, cultural enrichment, and business development activities, outreach programs and virtual services extend the reach of library services; and WHEREAS, libraries serve as crucial technology hubs for people in need of free internet access, computer training and workforce development resources, and WHEREAS, libraries are part of the American Dream – championing freedom of thought and expression, inspiring readers, learners and creators, they are places for opportunity, and lifelong learning; and WHEREAS, libraries remain a relevant and vital part of prospering communities; and WHEREAS, libraries, librarians, library workers and supporters across America are celebrating National Library Week, NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Christine L. Lundberg, Mayor of Springfield, Oregon, proclaim April 8-15, 2018 to be NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK And encourage all residents to visit the Springfield Public Library this week to take advantage of the wonderful library resources available. _________________________________ Christine L.
