ISSUE STATEMENT: The Public Works Department seeks Council approval to purchase one water tanker truck. The adopted FY08 budget includes funds for replacement of the existing tanker truck that is experiencing issues due to age and wear. This vehicle performs activities such as special events (fire works displays), street flushing, and supplying water to maintenance equipment. This vehicle also has the ability to support the Fire and Life Safety Department if needed. In FY08 $110,000 is budgeted for this purchase. This allows the purchase to be well within available funds. ATTACHMENTS: None DISCUSSION/ FINANCIAL IMPACT: The Public Works Maintenance Division has completed a formal bid process, culminating when the following bids were opened in the Finance Department on May 29,2008. Vendor Clyde/West Model Work Star International Chassis and tank/pump Bid Price $144,932. Brattain International Trucks Work Star International Chassis and tank/pump $106,629. Meets Specs. No No Staff recommends the Council accept the water tanker purchase price from Brattain International Trucks as it was low bid with the total purchase price of $106,629.00. Although both venders did not meet bid specifications it was determined by City staff that the specifications prepared by City staff were not consistent with present technology. The specifications that were not met do not affect the functionality of the machinery. The City Attorney has reviewed and concurs with City staff s conclusions and recommendation. Adequate funding is available in the FY08 Budget.
