Field Observations and Comments
A PSI representative met on site with Egge Sand and Gravel representatives to obserVe a proofroll at finished subgrade
elevation for an area of parking lot and driveway on the east side of the site (see attached site plan). The proofroll was
conducted using a loaded tandem axle dump truck weighing approximately 48,000 pounds. Some deflections were
observed under the wheel pads and wheel tracking up to 6 inches in depth occurred indicating a soft subgrade. The
area appeared over optimum moisture (wet) due to abundant roots from the trees that were there. Recommended that
the driveway area only be overexcavated to allow for a minimum of 18 inches of crushed rock. The overexcavation area
measured about 62' N/S by 26' E/W and the average overexcavation depth was about 4 to 6 inches. This was the last
area of parkingldriveway areas that needed to be excavated. Notified Mr. Dave Krull with Chambers Construction of our
observations and recommendations. Also spoke with Mr. Steve Smith with Egge Sand and Gravel regarding the use of
control density fill (CD F) under the proposed column footings. Informed Mr. Smith that the CDF should meet a
minimum compressive strength requirement of 100 pounds per square inch (psi) at an age of 28 days. If CDF is used,
the foundation footing excavations can be excavated vertically to match the dimensions of the proposed footing and do
not have to be oversized . To the best of our knowledge, the work inspected above was in accordance with the building
department approved design drawings, specifications, geotechnical report and applicabe workmanship provisions of the
International Building Code.
