ITEM TITLE:
IAFF BATALLION CHIEFS CONTRACT RATIFICATION
ACTION
REQUESTED:
Authorize the City Manager to ratify collective bargaining agreement with the IAFF
Battalion Chiefs unit.
ISSUE
STATEMENT:
Staff has concluded negations with IAFF for a one-year successor labor contract
spanning July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018. The current contract expired on June 30,
2017.

DISCUSSION/
FINANCIAL
IMPACT:
IAFF Battalion Chiefs ratified the tentative contract settlement as of October 2,
2017. The proposed contract includes changes to compensation and contract
language. The new successor contract is within Council guidance and the main
provisions are summarized below:
Wages and Cost of Living Adjustments:
July 1, 2017 (FY 2018): 3.5%
January 1, 2018 (FY 2018): 2.5%
Language Modifications:
Adjusted maximum vacation accrual for employees with 23 – 26 years of
continuous service reduced from 900 hours to 850 hours and for employees
with over 26 years of service from 950 hours to 900 hours. In both cases the
reduction does not apply to employees in PERS Tier 1. Similar to larger
contract.
Moved to standard IAFF language regarding progressive discipline. Same as
larger contract.
Agreed to follow federal reimbursement schedule for Sustenance.
