Home My WebLink AboutItem 07 Springfield Police Association Contract Ratification AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY Meeting Date: 6/26/2017 Meeting Type: Regular Meeting Staff Contact/Dept.: Candace Steffen, HR Bob Duey, Finance Staff Phone No: 541-736-1002 Estimated Time: 10 Minutes S P R I N G F I E L D C I T Y C O U N C I L Council Goals: Financially Responsible and Stable Government Services ITEM TITLE: SPRINGFIELD POLICE ASSOCIATION CONTRACT RATIFICATION ACTION REQUESTED: Approve/Not Approve: Motion to authorize the City Manager to sign the successive agreement between the City of Springfield and the Springfield Police Association (SPA) for a three-year labor agreement beginning July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2020 contingent upon ratification by the Springfield Police Association. ISSUE STATEMENT: City Staff has reached a tentative agreement with members of SPA concerning a successive agreement to the current labor contract that expires on June 30, 2017. The recommended settlement is within the parameters that staff received from Council on February 21st. An executive session will be held immediately prior to the regular session for staff to present the details The standard process used by the City has been to wait for ratification by the Union prior to Council action, but staff is asking for early consideration to accommodate the Council summer recess schedule that begins June 27th. ATTACHMENTS: No Attachments. See Executive Session Handouts. DISCUSSION/ FINANCIAL IMPACT: An Executive Session Council Briefing Memorandum will be distributed on Monday at the work session. The tentative agreement on the individual articles of the labor agreement with SPA was reached Friday afternoon on the 23rd. A fully completed updated version of the new labor agreement will not be available prior to the Council recess, but staff will be prepared to present to Council the economic settlement and significant operations issues that have been included in the agreement. The SPA Executive Board has agreed to bring the full contract to a vote of the membership by July 6th. The next available Council meeting is September 5, 2017.
