MODIFICATION REQUEST: Requests a modification from Section 9-7-15 (I) of the Springfield Sign
Code relative to location of allowable wall signage in the Downtown Sign District.
The following decision has been reached by the Community Services Manager regarding the above
referenced modification:

I) This sign will not be located within any of the required setback areas,
2) This proposed sign does not present any life andlor safety hazards.
3) The sign at this time is not a self imposed hardship. The applicant has not installed the sign prior
to obtaining approval from the City.

APPLICANT'S REQUEST
The applicant is requesting a modification of provisions from Section 9-7-15 (I) of the Springfield Sign
Code relative to the location of wall signage in the Downtown Sign District,
DISCUSSION
The applicant is requesting to install a wall sign on the east wall of their building which faces the parking
lot of Wells Fargo Bank instead of placing their allowable wall sign on their Main Street frontage as
allowed in the Code, The applicant has stated that if their wall sign was placed on the Main Street wall of
their building, the business would not be identified by their customers until after they have passed the
business, The applicant has agreed if the sign is allowed to be placed on the east wall of the building, the
sign which currently faces Main Street would be removed.
The following criteria must be met in order to approve a request:
I. Locational and/or dimensional problems have been identified.
My opinion is that the location and/or dimension of their proposed sign does not present any
problems,
2, The proposed adjustment will not cause any of the following adverse affects on neighboring
properties:
a) Creates a vision clearance hazard for pedestrians, motor vehicles, or bicycles.
The proposed sign is not located within any setback area and will be securely attached
to the building wall.

b) Creates a hazard for fire prevention or fire suppression.
Again, the sign will be securely attached to the building and not located next 10 or near
any opening in the east wall, The proposed sign would not create an additional hazard
for fire prevention or suppression,
c) Public safety to be compromised,
Does not apply
d) The hardship is not self imposed.
The sign at this time has not been installed, therefore, it would nol be considered a self
imposed hardship,
RECOMMENDATION
I recommend approval based on the following reasons:
I, This sign will not be located within any of the required setback areas.
2, This proposed sign does not present any life and/or safety hazards,
3, The proposed sign has not installed at this time, therefore, is not a self imposed hardship, The
applicant has agreed to removed their existing sign on their Main Street frontage if this sign is
approved,

Description of Variance Being Requested: We are requesting a variance
of the sign code 9-7-15 (1) page 13 which states "Each business
shall be limited to a maximum of one wall sign per building wall
fronting a public street." Our request is to install one wall
sign, within the allowable square footage, on the side elevation
that does not front a public street.
