Eugene, OR 97487 RE 737 S 48th - Site/SoIls/CompactiOn Investigation - Job #131-05 I As you requested, a site soIls mvestIgatiOn was performed at the above address on 03/14/0$ All unsuitable fills, organic and other unsUItable material has been removed to native grade. The native soIl on thiS site is sIlty clay loam/decomposed sandstone with a Unified Classification ofNlL and a plastiCity index of less than 20. This soil is not considered expansive (after Holtz 1959) lfhese soils are sUItable for the placement of footmgs for the proposed wood framed structure No extraordmary drainage IS required for thiS site. ! Crushed rock was placed to a depth in excess of 6" to approximately 30" to raise and level the buIldmg pad to the deSired elevatIOn for the proposed foundatIOn due to over-excavatIOn of the site to remove unSUitable clay soils A compactiOn inspection on the gravel fill was performed on 03/15/05. The compacted surface of the 1 Yl" minus crushed rock is adequate for the proposed foundatlOn;and has a 'mimmum beanng capacity of 1500 psf The compactIOn of the gravel surface is greater than 95% ofa standard proctor per ASTM D698. TIllS report is limited to the Site soIls investigatIOn related to soils and fill in regard to soIl c,ondltIons at the excavated structure site at the above address only, not slope con.ditlOns. The site is in a gently sloped area and the footings wIll be placed on compacted crushed rock ai approximately curb height Placing under floor drains at 6" into the compacted cr~shed rock will not provide the required diversion of surface waters away from the down slope sitesiin this area, and will not allow for fall to the street. It is recommended to place 3" diameter perf6rated perimeter footing drain at the up slope side of the structure only, changing the drain trine to solid past the edge of the foundation, and direct the drain to a street curb cut. The perforated drainline is to be place at the base of the footing with the solid portion of the drainlme to be sioped at approxImately 1 % t~ the street. Clean round rock is to be placed over the perforated drainline portIOn Clean, well drained backfill, with no expansive soils" is to be used for the b,ack fill around the entIre structUle, except at the dnveway. This method of dlvertmg the water around the foundatIOn wIll provide the required surface water dIverSIOn from the foundation, in that water wIll always take the path ofleast resistance The water will seep through the clean loam backfill mto the trench of clean round rock t~at has been placed over the perforated drain pIpe, mto the pipe and away from the structure's fo~dation.
