As yOU requested, an inspection review of the above sites was performed on 02/02105. The sites
are in a gently sloped area and the footings have been placed on compacted crushed loek at
approxunately curb height Placing lUlder Door drains at 6" into the compacted crushed rock will
not prOVide the required diversion of surface waters away from the down slope sites 111 thIS area,
and will not allow for fall to the street. It is recommended to place 3" diameter perforated
perimeter footing drams at the up slope side of the structures only, changmg the dram lme to
solId past the edge of the foundation, and direct the drain to a street curb cut. The perforated
drain line is to be place at the base of the footing with the solid po~tion of the drainJine to be
sloped at approximately 1 % to the street. Clean round rock is to be placed over the perforated
drainline portion. Clean, well drained backfill, With no expansive soils, is to be used for the back
fill around the entire structure, except at the driveway
This method of diverting the water around the foundation will prOVide the reqUIred surface water
diverSlOn from the foundation, in that v-/ater will always take the path of least resistance. The
water Will seep through the clean loam backfill mto the trench of clean round rock that has been
placed over the perforated drain pipe, into the pipe and away from the structure's foundatJol1.
The excavation is of adequate depth and With the installation of the compacted rock, optimum
soli moisture can be maintained to minimize the effects of the expansive soil at the site.
