Inary A~sment of Structural Damage from Falling Tree 345-% North 5th treet, Springfield, Oregon ~ .- . - --' Dear Bob: Per your request we visited the single family residence you are constructing at 2345-% North 5th Street, Springfield on Thursday July 14th. The reason for visit was to assess damage caused by a failing tree crown The crown fell through the roof over the kitchen area This single family residence IS constructed with cast-In-place concrete perimeter walls that were formed with ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms). The floors and roof are framed with TrusJoist products. There is a crawlspace. There IS no garage. The ICF walls appear to be intact, no bulging or displacements of the ICF walls (due to the Impact) were noted. No window damage was noted. The worst damage appears to be directly over the kitchen where the roof was destroyed. There is damage to the second floor framing There may be some damage to the ground floor framing The bUilt-up post supporting the ridge appears to have been overstressed. In conclusion, the ICF walls appear to be intact The damage appears to be isolated to the wood framing and finishes We will return to further assess the eXisting framing once the tree, damaged materials, and debris are removed. We may need to inspect and assess: the ledger supporting the ground and second floors forward of the rear bedroom walls; the floor framing at the kitchen and pantry areas; the gable end wall framing over .the kitchen Accessibility, debris, and personal safety concerns have limited our ability to fully assess the structure at thiS time If you have any additional questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to call. Per your request we visited the single family residence you are constructing at 2345-% North 5th Street, Springfield on today. The reason for visit was to further assess damage caused by a failing tree crown. Our preliminary assessment is outlined in our letter dated July 18, 2005 The following items have been reviewed' 1. The concrete walls appear to be Intact. We noted one hairline crack at the top of the wall (likely a shrinkage crack that developed shortly after construction). The exterior siding shifted due to the impact There was no movement at the window Jamb. No concrete repairs appear necessary. 2. The ridge beam is broken. Trim the member back to the post Our office Will forward a repair detail 3 One floor joist is cracked. Our office will forward a repair detail. 4 All other damaged members may be replaced in kind, per your original construction documents.
