I. Reference 303-5 of the MtJlC1nical Code. The Room is 9 feet x 9 feet. With an 8 foot ceiling allowance the volume is 9' x 9' x 8'. The boilers are 294 gallons each. One Cubic Foot = 7.48 gallons. Each boiler has a capacity of 39.3 OJ ft x 2 =78.6 x 16 = 1.257 c:ubic feet: required for the room. The room is 648 albic feet. PI~ prove my caladations wrong or? Is it possible that this inspector is misreading this section? I do not have a Mechanical Code.. The Building Code does not have any infonnation about boiler room size. just rating. 2. He requested that we verify that the make up air is enough. 3. He requested that we verify the flue size. As far as I can tefl we have a 14" flue.. 4. Door and walls are required to be one-hour rated per 302.5 of the Bunding Code. I will deal with the last one if you could assist me on where to find the infonnation on the first three.. Hal [hal@endex..com] Sent Friday, February 23, 2001 9:09 ANI To: Danny Klute Subject: Sweet Briar Water Heaters. Hey Dan, I'm not too familiar with this section of the UMC but I think you mean the 3032 talking about ratios of size of room, I read through this it is talking about building heating boilers, and these are domestic water heaters. If he is considering these as boilers by that definition, the ratio it talks about are for boilers that are not listed for closet or alcove installation. The lochinvar literature indicates these units are listed for closet and alcove installation, zero clearance_ I Will check. with the manufacturer on this too. The combustion air should be good. I will check that too, and the flue vent This was sized per the manufacturer. These units are high efficiency and use powered, forced draft burner so use a smaller flue vent than a standard atmospheric boiler. I'll give you a call later when I go over these things. Hal
