PURPOSE AND SCOPE
M 1'8t1uested. K & A Engineering. Inc, has completed monitoring the construction of Individual foundation pads
at the subject new residantlalsUMMSIon. 39 incftvidual foundation pads were construcl8d at the site and
prepared ready tor 10rmJng nsw foundaUOJJB.
Prior to construction, a Geotechnical ~gatiDnl was made of the subdivision to develop specific
f8Commrmdattons for developing 1h8 site for nlsldentl8l foun,datlonsr~. and uuutl8s.
The purpose Of our allVices was to provide monItOr constructlon at foundation paas to assure that OOf1BtnJUtian

Because the depth and _Ill of sods varied significantly across the 8ubdlv~n, ~h pad was evaluated

excavation.
For manY r}f ~ foundatiOn pad8, the depth to weathered slRstone or sandstone was less than 2.feet and, In
Ihes8 cases, the foundatiOn pads were excavated to bedrOCk, and gradid smooth, JeveI. and free from loose
matvrfals. In ~ casas the base or the excavation was in two benches separated in grade from 1 to 2.feet

In those aras aI deeper gray plastic sRI, the sifts weAl removed to a minimum depth tt 1 &-inche8 below footing
grade. The battolTl$ of the excavations were graded smooth, level, and free from loose materialS. In most
cases the bas& Of tho excavation W88 In two benches separated In grade frOm 1 to 2-f8et. Select granular nn
was placed in thu ~ 8XCaVlltfon and brooohUa fooling grade.
In all cases where peaty slits wel1 encountered, the peaty-sJlls were completely removad frOm the foundallon
area.

Select granular fills consisted of a sub-base material and a baSe material. The scbobue material was placed on
1M prepared subgrade in the'foundatton pads and con9f8t8d of a S-Inch minus weu.grad8d quany aggragat8.
The baee material was placed over the sub-l>aSe rock and con8l8t8d Df, a 1 *'~ minus densellradad quany
aggl'8Q8l9. BaIh aggregates were produced at the MD1'S8 Bros. Quany In Sprlngtleld.

The select granular fiUS were well compacted in 12-inch maximum lifts (loose) using a steel-Whe8led Y1b, caI.u.1
roller. Water was applied 88 necessary to maintain optImUm water content during compaction.
