The geotechnical report for the Ambleside Meadows - lit Addition Subdivision
recommends immediate moisture stabilization of exposed expansive sub-grades, and that
expansive soils be over-excavated and replaced with at least 12 inches offilJ compacted
to at least 95% of ASTM D698 for foundation preparation. The report also recommends
that measures be taken to prevent water from COllecting in or around the foundation areas
during and after the construction process. and that positive site drainage be provided to
reduce the infiltration of surface water into the expansive soils.
The geotechnical report, further emphasizes that the finish grade of landscape soil
adjacent to the foundation should be at least 24" above the expansive bearing soils. finnlv
comoscted to reduce the infiltration of water at the surface. The adequacy of fill soil
material around the building must be verified to the satisfaction of the design
professional.

1. The foundation sub-grade is capable of supporting a minimum of IS00 psf, and is
adequate to support the building proposed for this site.
2. The moisture content of the excavation was adequately maintained during the site
preparation process and was adequately covered to stabilized moisture content
prior to any significant change in moisture content of the sub-grade.
3. The site is adequately graded and drained to prevent the collection of water in the
excavated area during construction.
4. The accw....~anying report titled f'Site Investigation Questionnaire for Consulting

Field Observations and Comments
PSI Representative observed proofroll of In-situ native sOil (In southeast quadrant) and native sOil fill (In the other three
quadrants) of the excavation for bUIlding pad within lot #48 Proofroll was conducted with a fully loaded dual-axle dump
truck, weighting approximately 48,000 Ibs (per Jeff of River Valley BUilders, Inc) No rutting or deflections were
observed under wheel load ThiS result indicates of a firm, well consolidated subgrade
4
PSI Representative conducted nuclear mOisture measurements to determine whether subgrade moisture levels were at
or above the laboratory determined optimum mOisture content of 26 5%, as required by Troy Hull, PE Engineer of
record, for subgrade acceptance, with exception of the southeast corner of the bUilding pad which measured 408%
mOisture The rest of the pad displayed mOisture content below the 26 5% speCification Please see our Field Density
Report No 722-90435-7, for exact values
PSI Representative Informed Mr Greg Larkin of River Valley BUIlders, of these results. Mr Larkin Indicated that he
would proceed with placement of crushed rock fill of less than 4 Inch thickness at the time and that he would contact PSI
at a later date thiS winter to re-evaluate the subgrade mOisture condition
Inspector: Mike Dewey
