City of Springfield Permit No, COM2004.00770 PrG.104.04 PURPOSE AND SCOPE As requsste~, K & A Engineering, Inc. has completed a limited evaluation of solis at the subject site of the construction of a single-famUy residence on lot 1 S of the 81. LucIa Park subdivision. The purpose of this evaluatron was to determine the suitability of the site for construction of the proposed conventionally framed structures on cast.in.place concrete spread footings and to make recommendations for preparation of the foundation pad. FOUNDATION PREPARATION The site Is located on a flat lot south of Main Street off of a new extension of Aster Street. Tllere were no signs or slgnlflcant unstable areas (tension cracks, depressions, scarps) at the time of our inspectIon or dUring excavation. Salls at the site consisted of 1.0 to 1.5.f8et 01 loose brown organic SIL T5 (topsoil) over 1.5 to 2.5.feet of brown, moderately dense, damp, ,moderately plastic SILT over tan/orange-stained, very stiff to hard, very weathered tuffaceous SILTSTONE. The brown, moderately plastic slits are sJlghUy to moderately expansive. Groundwater was not encoun1:ered In the excavation. Preparation of the foundation pads was made according to our on-sIte recommendations, and consisted of stripping the organic surface soils and silts to undisturbed brown silts or siltstone to a depth ranging from 2 to 3.5-fest Approximately 12 to 24-inohes of select granular fill consisting of 3-lnch dense.graded quarry rock was placed In 12.lnch (maximum) lifts and compacted using a steel-wheeled vibratory roller ootll no further deformation was evIdent durir.g compaction at the edges of the roller. SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATIONS The foundation pad, as prepared, Is suitable to support the cast-In-place concrete spread footings without significant heaving but Wltll good bearing capacity (1,500 pounds per square foot allowable bearing capacity). We recommend aCc8ptanCftI of the foundlltion pad, as prepared, by the CIty of Springfield Building Official. LIMITATIONS OF THIS REPORT This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of Scott Jordan and his design consultants and construction agents for the subject proposed structure, This geotechnical Investigation, analysis, and recommendations meet the standards of care of competent geotechmcal engineers providing similar services at the time these services were provided. We do not warrant or guarantee these recommendations, site surtace, or subsurface conditions. Exploration test holes mdlcate soli conditions only at specific locations (I.e, the test hole locations) to the depths penetrated. They do not necessarily reflect solVrock materials or groundwater conol~ons that exist between or beyond exploration locations or limits.
