Gentlemen's Club Downtown
Please forgive me if I sent this to the wrong place. I did not know how to contact the
city council. I hope you will be able to forward this to the right people. Thank you so
much.
Dear City Council,
I am very concerned about the Gentlemen's Club that is to be located in downtown
Springfield just a
stone's throwaway from the Springfield School District's A3 high school.
My son attends A3 and I am upset that the city would even consider allowing such a
business to
locate so close to a school. Regardless of what people might call it, a strip club is a
strip club. The
name "Gentlemen'sClub" implies that only professional, sophisticated men would go to such
a place.
I find that hard to believe.
The kind of people this business would attract is not good for the downtown Springfield
area and I
can't imagine their type of clientele would attract more professional offices to locate
downtown. If \
anything it would drive them away.
For the safety of our youth and for the vision that A3 and the school district have to
help develope
the downtown area, I ask that you deny this business the access to an area so close to a
'public
school. This business should be viewed the same way as if it were asking to locate near
an
elementary school. Even though my son is a teenager he is still young and deserves the
city and
school district to protect them as best they can. The fact that A3 is an open campus adds
more
concern to this issue.
Thank you for taking a few minutes to hear my concerns.
Sincerely,
Dawn A. Royer
