We made a visit to the site on April 14, 2003. Dunng our time onsite, we examined the subject
lot, which 15 located at the southeast corner 0" the intersection of S Mica and S. 60th S, 'eets
We walked the subject parcel and noted the lot had been excavated, to uniform deptll that
extended about 3Y2 ft below grade on the uphill Side. The excavation depth was establiS~~ as
necessary to extend below some limited site fill and high plasticity clay ~hat we pre\"lous1y
,Identified as being potentially expansive (see cur Geotechnical Investigation report datec I June
28, 2002 and subsequent construction observation letter dated October 18, 2002). I The
excavated grade was also set to accommodate the Originally sloping grade. i
We observed the foundation area excavation flxtended to an adequate depth below a t ulk of
the unsuitable clay 5011. Subsequent to our \1Islt, we understand the excavated fountlation
grade was tilled with about 8 Inches 3-lnch minus, crushed, quarry rock capped with adout 4
inches of 1-inch minus, crushed aggregate. The total rock fill thickness reported to u~ IS at
least 12 inches, which meets our minimum f-equirements. Accordingly, we approV~d the
foundation area for subsequent footing constru'C.:tion. I
