Project Location: Springfield, Oregon P.o. No.: Job No. P 30115 Type of Inspection: SOils Permit No.: Weather: N/A Clear Field Observations and Comments Observed the Hydration and compaction effort of native soil structural fill with excavation areas A and B,(Please see the attached map for locations). Centerline Construction used a t;>ulldozer mounted sOil-ripper bar to rip the first 11ft (approximately 1-2 feet thick) of native soil fill above subgrade Water was applied to the surface of this 11ft from Ambleside Drive With a side-spraying water truck Performed field nuclear mOisture-density test on the first lift of native SOil fill Based on the AASHTO T-99 theoretical ""'axlmum dry denSity and optimum mOIsture for thiS material, thiS lift IS unacceptable at this time In conducting three tlloratory test pitS Within excavation A, it was revealed that the subgrade had been ripped up by the hydration effort applied to the first lift The mixing of material Into the first lift made achieVing a uniform above optimum moisture condItIon difficult. In discussing thiS situation With Mr. Glenn Ling (Project Engineer), Troy Hull (PSI), and Mike Kirkpatrick (Foreman, Centerline Construction) it was deCided that a shallow ripping and application of two full water trucks of water to this lift would be followed by mOisture-density testing again on Monday 10/11/99.
