Field Observations and Comments
Observed the Hydration and compaction effort of native soil structural fill with excavation areas A and B,(Please see
the attached map for locations). Centerline Construction used a bulldozer mounted soil-ripper bar to np the first lift
(approximately 1-2 feet thick) oLnatlve soil fill above subgrade Water was applied to the surface of this 11ft from
Ambles/de Drive wIth a slde-spraymg water truck
Performed field nuclear moisture-density test on the first 11ft of native soil fill. Based on the AASHTO T-99 theoretical
""axlmum dry denSity and optimum mOisture for this matenal, this 11ft IS unacceptable at this time In conducting three
;>Ioratory test pitS within excavation A, it was revealed that the subgrade had been npped up by the hydration effort
applied to the first 11ft. The mixing of matenal into the first lift made achieving a uniform above optimum moisture
condition difficult In diSCUSSIng thiS situation with Mr. Glenn Ling (Project Engineer), Troy Hull (PSI), and Mike
KIrkpatrick (Foreman, Centerline Construction) it was decided that a shallow npplng and application of two full water
trucks of water to this lift would be followed by moisture-density testing agaIn on Monday 10/11/99.
