"SPRINGFIELD EDUCATION DAY"

I
WHEREAS, the Springfield Board of Education presents Springfield Education
Day as a celebration of thriving community involvement iq our schools and for.
honoring all community members who 'have contributed time and effort into
ensuring student success in our schools; and, i .
I
WHEREAS, the keynote event of Springfield Education Day' is the Gift of
Literacy, a program made possible through partnership. This project promotes
a love of reading and encourages young children to read by providing anew,
hardbound book and backpack to every first-grade studedt in Springfield
Public Schools. Research shows that early literacy intervebtion in the life of a
child is directly related to ins"tilling positive values in child!ren and encouraging
long-term success in school and in life; and I

WHEREAS, the Springfield and Twin Rivers Rotary clubs proposed the Gift of
Literacy and their partnership and the support of other co!mmunity partners
have made this event possible. The partners of TEAM Spripgfield: City of
Springfield, Springfield Public Schools, Springfield Utility Board and
Willamalane Park & Recreation District, have played an infegral role in funding
and encouraging this event; and I
WHEREAS; community involvement should be celebrated,las it is important to
instilling positive values in our students and encouraging them to be life-long
learners.
