FOUNDA nON IFILL PROCE~
The following procedure can be used with the proper controls and materials:
1, Sit, rrC,nRrRrioq; The site should be properly drained with no free water present, The surface should be capablc
of supporting (he equipment used without rutting or causing the existing soil to turn into mud due to the
opcration of equipment. The site should be, scalped of all vegetation to at least 8" . 12" below original gTound
surfac, to extend at least 12", or the depth of the fill beyond the perimeter footing line. The subgrade should
be al a uniform elevation with a maximum l' tolerance.
2, fill Malerial & Placement' The gravel or crushed rock fill material should be well graded with a sufficient
amount of coarse and flOe material to fill all voids wben compacted. The material should be frce of silt,
overburden or olher material whiCh would react adversely to compaction or variations in moisture C()nlent. The
fill should be placed by end dumping and blading in a manner to prevent separation of course and fine materials,

OCC\lrs, thcn a topping of wcll graded crushed rock should be used as a flOalleveling course and compacted with
a portable vibratory plate compactor. '
3. C,Q1ltrJll Uniform Building Code, Section 2903[aJ. last paragraph, states, "Fills to be used to support the
foundation of any buildIng or struclure shall be placed in accordance with accepted engineering practice, A soils
investigation report and a report of satisfactory placement of ml, both acceptable 10 the Building Official, shall
be submined", To comply with this requirement, the following procedure is recommended:
a, Engineer is to inspect and approve site prior to any excavation or grading being performed.
b, Engineer is to make any additional or special recommendations for modifiution of the above
procedures based on specific site conditions.
c, Engineer is to inspec1 site during the subgtade excavation and preparation.
d, Engineer is to Inspect site during or after completion of the fill placement.
e, Engineer Is to provide report of compliance with this procedure and verification of satisfactory
soil bearing for the proposed structures,
f. foundation inspection by rbe local code enforcemcnt authority Ls to be In accordance with U8C
Sec,30S[e]1.
