RE: ~~tion of pl,oposed building site at:
~_,685LGlacier, Springfield, OR
Building Permit No. 910167
Dear Steve,
As requested, Branch Engineering inspected the building site on March 21, 1991. The building
pad site was excavated and crushed quarry rock (loggers special) was spread over the driveway
area.
By examining the cut areas, the foundation soil was found to consist of a silty clay loam (dark
brown) with cobbles mixed with the soil. The Lane County Soil Survey indicates this soil as
Type 43C Dixonville-Philomath-Hazelair complex. By probing with an iron rod, a few areas
were found to be soft. It should be noted that the excavation was open to some rainfall the
previous few days, which resulted in trapped water. We recommend the following construction
method be used at this site:
1. The soft areas will need to be removed (overexcavated) and replaced with rock backfill
(3/4"-0 crushed or equal). Do not dig "holes" that will again trap water but grade out poor
material and slope gently to drain away to the north.
2. Crushed rock and subgrade should be compacted when site has dried.
3. Perimeter 3" or 4" perforated pipe should be installed as a french drain along the south
and east walls of the structure. Slope pipe to drain to the north and run solid 3" or 4" pipe (also
roof drains) to outfall at curb/gutter weephole,

4. Add rebar to perimeter foundation, such as (1) continuous #4 bar at top of stem wall and
(2) continuous #4 bars at footing.
Based on the completion of the above construction methods, the site is suitable for the proposed
residential structure.
